Solar Eclipse Information
With the Total Solar Eclipse taking place on April 8th, 2024, the Town of Patten wants to share some key information with residents and visitors to the area.

What to Expect
On April 8th, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America (sometime between 2:16 and 4:41pm, depending on where you are in Maine). This happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. The sky will darken as if it were dawn or dusk, and this will last about 3 minutes. It is projected that somewhere around 40,000 people will be visiting northern Maine to view the eclipse.
Safety
You must use ISO-certified eyewear when viewing the eclipse. You should never look directly at the Sun! Eclipse glasses can be ordered online or you can purchase them at the Island Falls Town Office for $2.00 a pair.
Events
While the Town of Patten will not be hosting any eclipse-related events, there will be plenty of events taking place in and around the area:
Island Falls Eclipse Fest, April 6th - 8 th
Houlton Eclipse Festival Weekend, April 5th – 8 th
Solar Eclipse Party w/ Adam Ouellette (Shin Pond Village)
